2016-12-08 - Thursday - Bricks and eggs

Thursday we had some work done on the brick veneer of our house. We had several cracks and some mortar was missing from the side door step.

This corner was the worst, with the veneer separating on both sides of the corner (I forgot to take 'before' photos) and leaning out about 3/8". When it was opened up there was a bunch of mortar that fell down between the wall and the bricks during installation and no tie-backs anywhere. That has been remedied and things look a lot better now.

Gregory Allen did the work and he did a great job.

Thursday night we had breakfast for supper and I noticed that either these eggs looked really unhappy or they were the energy creature from Johnny Quest.

2016-05-31 - Tuesday - Breakfast and beer

Tuesday I made a big breakfast (at about 1:30 pm) and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do like breakfast no matter what time of day or night.

Tuesday afternoon I was shopping for beer and found this. I will have to try it at some point, but I was making better use of my money that day. I bought a 12-pack for the same amount.

2016-01-27 - Wednesday - Wingless Moths, Empty Bowls, Decals

When I went out to get the mail on Wednesday I noticed some of the female wingless canker worm moths clinging to the front porch so I started looking around and saw hundreds of them all over the eaves of the house. They are very confused. At least they will not get to the tops of the trees to lay their eggs.

When I wedged up some recycled clay I noticed some phoenix running through the bag. When I trimmed the pots I found that vein still prominent in the clay.

More Empty Bowls, but you knew that. :8^)

For a while Adrienne (our executive director at Clayworks) thought it would be good to have our logo on the wall where the workshops take place. It was installed today and I agree with her that it will stand out in photos from now on. Nicely done.

2015-02-26 - Thursday - No snowman

All the snow predictions up to 6-10 inches were wrong. Shortly after it started snowing it changed to rain and sleet. We ended up with about 1-2 inches of very wet slush which is very hard to build a snowman with.

It appears Charlotte was right on the line as the north side of town got a lot more snow than we did, and just to the south it was all rain.

By sundown tonight there was hardly anything left near our house. How sad is that?

The grocery stores are the only ones that benefit from these non-storms as everyone runs out to buy milk, bread, and eggs.

I think of all the people in town that are eating all that french toast and still going to work.

Oh well.

2014-03-02 - Sunday - Breakfast

Lately I've been eating eggs for breakfast more often.  I cook them lots of different ways, but recently I have found some great egg recipes on budgetbytes.com.

One of them is a new way of cooking soft-boiled eggs, which I had this morning.  I had no idea soft-boiled eggs and spinach would be such a good combination.

Saturday Scramble

Saturday morning I made something my Mom frequently made when I was growing up (well, allegedly growing up...).  Scrambled eggs with mushrooms and baby peas.  Some salt, pepper, and occasionally a little Texas Pete and you've got a full-fledged breakfast happening.

I don't know how she came up with that combination so I'll have to ask her some time.  It's good and it holds those childhood memories that make it taste even better.  As everybody knows, "Nobody can cook like Mom."
