2018-03-23 - Friday - Empty Bowls!

Friday we attended the Empty Bowls event for Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. It gets bigger every year and we are always glad to be there. I'm honored to be asked to do wheel demos at the event.

Bowls!

More and more bowls!

Kimberly and Susan at lunch.

After the event was over we took the equipment back to Clayworks and I ran into Lee Zimmerley glazing her pots.

Gorgeous painting.

Lots of work to glaze.

2018-03-18 - Sunday - Carolina Clay Matters meeting

Sunday was the Carolina Clay Matters Guild meeting. We held it at Carolina Clay Connection and Walter Aberson did a demo wearing the outfit he wears at the Renaissance Festival.

2018-03-17 - Saturday - Goodwill run

Saturday I made a run to Goodwill. I will miss those those 34 year old rear entry ski boots most of all. I had a lot of fun with gravity wearing those.

2018-03-16 - Friday - Saving a bee

Friday I found this bumblebee struggling on the ground trying to climb on some dandelions and thought she could use a boost. I got her to climb on the stick and she turned to look right at me for about 20 seconds, then flew away. We had a moment.

2018-03-15 - Thursday - New pots

Thursday I thought I would try playing with some new rim ideas. These are just sketches; I'm not sure where I want to go with this idea. I think the undulating rims are too much craziness with the collar so I believe I will stick with the smooth rims when making the frilly collars.

2018-03-14 - Wednesday - Fortune

Wednesday I got an interesting fortune at the restaurant.

2018-03-10 - Saturday - Wood firing

Saturday was the wood kiln firing. It's a community affair, like a barn raising. If you took a barn apart piece by piece and burned it, that is.

It really is a lot of fun.

2018-03-09 - Friday - Empty Bowls and loading kiln

Friday we unloaded some bowls for Empty Bowls. I was pleased with the slip transfers.

Later I went out to Lawndale to load Hal's kiln for the next day's firing.

2018-03-07 - Wednesday - Goneaway Pottery

I made this graphic using stencils available on my phone. I like it and thought it was worth sharing here.

2018-03-07 - Wednesday - Mint, yard, Empty Bowls

When I walked out on Wednesday I was struck by how nice the heuchera looked. It seems to be liking its home.

Wednesday night I went to hear Denny Gerwin speak at The Mint Museum. He covered his education and career so far by reading short stories he wrote about the people and events in his life and how they related to his work. It was nice.

To find out more about Denny Gerwin go here, here, here, or here.

Later I went to Clayworks to glaze more Empty Bowls.

2018-03-06 - Tuesday - Empty Bowls glazing

Tuesday night I glazed a batch of empty bowls. Onward and upward.

Waxed...

...and glazed.

When I got home I noticed a glow in the sky to the south.

It was intriguing.

Really intriguing.

2018-03-05 - Monday - Deer and pots

Monday I noticed a perfect cloven hoofprint in the backyard. Deer are everywhere here in the city.

Monday night I added accents to the pots for Hal's kiln.

2018-03-03 - Saturday - Muddy Fun and then some

Saturday was Muddy Fun day and we had the usual group of enthusiastic students and volunteers.

At lunchtime I went to the Common Market and got a modified Evil Homer sandwich, red pepper gouda bisque, and a Mexicali Stout. Yum.

After lunch I made three pots that are to be fired in my friend Hal's groundhog wood kiln. More refinements to come later.

I thought I'd leave an inspirational message on the white board.

Later that evening Karen and I went out to dinner and I got this fortune.

We are scheduled to go to Amelia Island, FL, and an Alaskan cruise this year, so I guess it's correct.

2018-03-01 - Thursday - Serious Moonlight

Thursday night there was some serious moonlight in the backyard after the rain cleared out. I just couldn't walk by it without snapping a photo.

2018-02-28 - Wednesday - Many things

The May Apples are starting to pop up. I'm always pleased to see that they like it in our yard.

Wednesday night I went to Clayworks and did the slip transfer on the cut rim bowls. Not too bad. I may have to do more of this in the future.

On the way out I noticed that tree again. I checked; it is a Bradford Pear. I'm not a fan, but it sure did bloom nicely this year.

I stopped at the store on the way home and was completely grossed out (again) by the latest Oreo flavors. Please make it stop!
