Sunday was the Carolina Clay Matters Guild meeting. We held it at Carolina Clay Connection and Walter Aberson did a demo wearing the outfit he wears at the Renaissance Festival.

2015-08-30 - Sunday - Alison Luce workshop

On Sunday I attended the Alison Luce workshop presented by the Carolina Clay Matters Guild at CPCC. It was good to see Alison again as it had been a few years since we ran into each other at Clayworks. She presented a good workshop and we learned a lot about her process and doing residencies in other cities.

2015-02-22 - Sunday - Gay Smith workshop

Saturday and Sunday I attended the Gay Smith workshop sponsored by Carolina Clay Matters Guild, held at CPCC. Gay is a good teacher and we all really enjoyed seeing how she works and what inspires her to create the pieces she makes. She covered everything from inspiration, to technique, to chemical processes. (I actually took notes!)

Thank you Ms. Smith for an informative and fun couple of days.

September 15 - Sunday - Clay Matters Guild meeting

Sunday was the monthly Clay Matters Guild meeting.  We had a short business meeting and then enjoyed a demo by Kim Chapman.  Kim has been throwing pots for more than thirty years and has lots of stories about the journey.  His demo was entertaining and informative.

June 6 - Working

Last year Allison McGowan taught a workshop for the Carolina Clay Matters Pottery Guild that I attended.  When it was over I helped her clean up and load out and she gave me some of her special porcelain mix.  She told me it's plasticity would make it throw nicely and I have been looking forward to trying it for quite a while.  I have had to re-slake it twice since it's slept on my shelf for so long.  During that time it has grown what several of us think is algae since it seems too green to be mold.  Allison was absolutely correct, it was wonderful to throw compared to regular helios.  I made a taller pot than I normally can make with porcelain.

I added a large scarab beetle to the simple pot with vermiculite and used nickel chromium wire for the legs and antennae.  I have plans for it later...

November 13 - Allison McGowan workshop

Sunday was the Carolina Clay Matters Pottery Guild meeting with the usual covered dish gathering and we were treated to a workshop with Allison McGowan.  She makes beautiful hand-built pieces using lots of great texture and nice, full forms.  She slams all her own slabs instead of using a slab roller and makes her own forms.  We were amazed at the plasticity of her custom porcelain blend, it just stretches on forever.

October 16 - Ron's demo

Ron Philbeck did the demo at the Carolina Clay Matters Guild meeting on Sunday.  His demo was lively and informative and we all enjoyed it. 

I took a lot of pictures during his demo, but I love this photo since it looks to me like he is playing a tiny clay ukulele and singing.
