2018-05-08 - Tuesday - Blue-Eyed Grass

The blue-eyed grass is growing well and the ferns are happy too.

I voted in the primary. I didn't used to vote in primaries. I like to think I'm doing better.

I made more voluminous pots tonight.

2018-05-03 - Thursday - Grass, chipmunks, pots, and fire

Thursday I went out at lunch time and cut the grass. My gait has changed so much in recent years that I constantly walk out of my right sock. I don't understand it.

The blue-eyed grass was in full bloom.

I found a chipmunk burrow. One of many.

Thursday night I made some more voluminous pots.

Raku class happens on Thursday nights. Tonight was a firing night.

2018-05-02 - Wednesday - Modified Pots

I decided the pots from last night were too boring so I decided to play with them a bit. We'll see.

2018-05-01 - Tuesday - Lunch and Other Things

Tuesday I went over to my friend Herb Cohen's house to help him with some printer problems he was having. After getting the printer problems sorted, Herb offered me lunch. We had a delicious meal made better by good company.

On the way home I decided to check out our park. I was told that the playground equipment was gone and I found out it was.

Tuesday night I threw some voluminous pots.

2018-04-07 - Saturday - Clayworks Spring Sale

Saturday was the second day of the Clayworks Spring Sale & Open House. Here are some photos of my pots on display.

2018-03-05 - Monday - Deer and pots

Monday I noticed a perfect cloven hoofprint in the backyard. Deer are everywhere here in the city.

Monday night I added accents to the pots for Hal's kiln.

2018-03-03 - Saturday - Muddy Fun and then some

Saturday was Muddy Fun day and we had the usual group of enthusiastic students and volunteers.

At lunchtime I went to the Common Market and got a modified Evil Homer sandwich, red pepper gouda bisque, and a Mexicali Stout. Yum.

After lunch I made three pots that are to be fired in my friend Hal's groundhog wood kiln. More refinements to come later.

I thought I'd leave an inspirational message on the white board.

Later that evening Karen and I went out to dinner and I got this fortune.

We are scheduled to go to Amelia Island, FL, and an Alaskan cruise this year, so I guess it's correct.

2017-06-01 - Thursday - Flowers and pot

Flowers are popping out all over the yard. I love to watch the spring dance; while it's repetitive, it never gets old.

It was a quiet night at Clayworks and I made a quiet, simple pot. It's amazing how my surroundings influence my pots sometimes.

2016-10-06 - Thursday - Unload gas kiln

Thursday we unloaded the gas kiln and we had mixed results. Some sections didn't get any reduction and others got plenty. Overall, I was happy with my results.

2016-09-04 - Sunday - Snorkel tea pot

Sunday I was feeling a bit silly and thought, "what if I combine a snorkel pot and a tea pot?", so I did.

It's functional, but impractical. The handle will not hold it, but I liked the silhouette the way it is. It's got to be fun or why do it?

I also made a full-bellied round pot.

Wednesday was another hot day in Charlotte. It's August, we expect that.

2016-07-20 - Wednesday - New pots

Wednesday night I finished working on Tuesday's pot (right side) and threw two more, this time with raku clay.

Sometimes round is ok.

2016-07-19 - Tuesday - New pot

As I've mentioned here before, sometimes a pot is just too round. At times like that extreme measures are often called for to remedy the situation.

...or just stretch the hell out of it.

This pot needs to firm up a bit before I can continue to work on it.

Round is a shape --it's just not the only shape.

2016-07-13 - Wednesday - More raku clay

Wednesday I worked on some more pots using raku clay.

Sometimes round is good and sometimes pots are just way too round and need to be modified. That explains the pot on the right.

2016-07-10 - Sunday - Kiln unload

On Sunday I helped Ralph unload his kiln which he graciously let me add some pots to. As usual, I liked some of my pots better than others.

2016-05-17 - Tuesday - Clayworks

Tuesday night I went to Clayworks to work on some pots. When I got out of the car I noticed the beautiful sunset over the mini-storage buildings next door. I can't resist even a slightly dramatic sunset.

Once inside the building I finished up the trimming and handles on some pots.

2015-08-08 - Saturday - Fire kiln

Saturday we fired the kiln all day. Since it's a matter of checking it every hour or so, it left us free to do other things while it fired. We worked on repairing a wheel, measuring out some glaze materials, and I threw some pots. (I know, go figure.)

Kim and I started off with some Bojangle's biscuits and a cup of tea. Later, Becky and I had a nice lunch of falafel wraps from La Shish Kabob.

It was a good day.

Always good luck to drink from a Doug Blythe mug on firing day.

2015-06-28 - Sunday - Pots. (Remember pots?) and Father's day

We returned home from Montreal on Sunday morning so I went to Clayworks to get my fired pots. I was very pleased with the results. I love my shinos.

Stephanie and Meredith got me a great Father's Day present. I look forward to using this on the grill to flip hamburgers for everyone. Isn't that a wonderful gift? We have good kids.
