2016-05-24 - Tuesday - The Monkees!

Tuesday night a bunch of us went to see the Monkees' 50th anniversary tour. Becky and Susan got tickets for some great seats. The only Monkees on this tour are Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork but they put on a great show, covering many of the group's hits. They did such a good job that it was easy to close your eyes and be right back in the 60's during the performance. Since Davy Jones passed away in 2012 there was video of him singing some of his ballads while the guys sang along. Mike Nesmith only shows up occasionally and he didn't on Tuesday.

They did an excellent job especially considering that Micky is 71 and Peter is 74. Bravo!

2014-12-13 - Saturday - Goneaway Pottery Holiday Sale

Saturday was the annual Goneaway Pottery Holiday Sale. Several of my friends joined me for the annual shindig. As you can see from the photos it was a beautiful sunny day unlike last year's constant cold drizzle.

It was a good day with a steady stream of customers and many friends stopping by to hang out in the sun and visit. We had some canvas chairs set up in the driveway and there weren't many times they were empty. It always makes me feel good when friends visit and linger, and Saturday was no exception. Even Herb Cohen and Jose Fumero stopped by and sat for a while. To say I was honored would be an understatement. You can read more about Herb and Jose here.

Saturday - Spring Barn Sale

Saturday was the Carolina Clay Matters Pottery Guild Spring Barn Sale.  While the sky was threatening, and leaked a few times, it didn't discourage many people from coming out to see us.  Everyone I talked to was having a good day.  Pottery people are not afraid of a little rain.  I'm just glad we weren't selling watercolors.

Saturday - Another British invasion

Playing catch up again...

Saturday we (Becky, Kim, and our friend Ann) went to Shelby to attend a workshop featuring the talents of Hannah McAndrew and Doug Fitch at the Cleveland County Arts Council.  Hannah lives in Scotland and Doug in England.  It was a wonderful experience and made even better since their friend and our other blogging buddy, Angela Wolford came all the way from Australia to accompany them.  It was a magical day and it was like we had rock stars in our midst.  There was a surreal quality about it since we have all been blogging together for several years and we finally got to meet face to face.

Doug and Hannah did demos for most of the day and had us all spellbound by their talents and techniques.  They showed us how they throw their forms and how they decorate them and kept us laughing all the way.

We had a great lunch and watched the Isaac Button film while eating.

Then it was back to the workshop and more wonderful forms and decorating.

After the workshop we all went out front and took a picture on the steps and then it was on to a great dinner at the Pleasant City Grill.

All too soon, it was over and we had to say goodbye to our faraway friends and bid them safe travels back home.

A big thanks to Hannah, Doug, and Angela for visiting us and to Ron Philbeck for making it possible.

2010-07-30 Friday - McCormick & Schmick's

On Friday evening a bunch of us met at McCormick and Schmick's for happy hour to see Jamie Hoover and Steve Stoeckel play their acoustic set.  Jamie and Steve never disappoint and the restaurant's happy hour menu is very good.  We had quite a good turnout of friends and we all had a good time.

I didn't partake much in the food at the restaurant since I had to go home and cook for the family.  I went home and made a chicken dish with red peppers, onions, and mushrooms.  It was pretty good and I will try to remember to make it again in the future.

2010-03-27 Saturday - Spring Home Sale

Saturday was our Spring home sale.  The artists who joined me for the sale were Amy, Becky, Cindy, Elaine, Kim, and Susan.  While sales weren't what we wished them to be, it was a pleasant, sunny day and a nice time to visit with good friends and have some good food.  Thanks to all who participated and all who attended.

I really liked hosting the sale and thought the front lawn was a great place to hold it.  We had two 'rooms', one on each level of the yard and I think the layout worked well.  We have several other sales planned this year so stay tuned for dates and locations and come on out and see us.
