Wednesday 2009-04-08

Wednesday night I finally got around to doing something with my "sutured" pot. Following Greg's advice, I sprayed it with iron oxide, copper, rutile, and Alfred Blue (with lots of cobalt in it). I then dotted it with Alfred Blue and some other glazes. I was afraid of covering my sutures if I glazed the whole piece, so I went for the alternative option.

One of Angela's friends altered it
by pushing her finger in both sides of it.

Sunday 2009-04-05

Spent Sunday in the yard doing the annual first strike. Our lawn mower finally gave out after twenty-one years --don't you hate when that happens? I picked up a new one at Sears and took it on it's maiden voyage. It worked well, but the self-propulsion cable is set too tightly and when you start the mower you are moving out whether you are ready or not. Hopefully Sears will adjust it under warranty.

Implements of mass destruction.
(Including Binkley.)

I tilled up one of my vegetable beds.

And didn't touch the other one.
This one has oregano growing in it
so it will be tougher to clean.

The compost pile on the right
and the spot I will turn it into on the left.
(It's only been two years since I turned it...)

(Please excuse the camera strap.)

Tomato cages waiting for a call to action.

Got your nose!

Oh, there it is.
Gotta' play a bit after all that work.

With all those gas powered machines
there has to be many gas cans
with different oil mixtures.

Here's another project waiting for me.
New air registers for everyone!

Those signs looks familiar.
I'll have to use them again some day.

I had to get pottery into the post somehow.

Friday 2009-04-03 Clayworks Spring Sale

Friday was the Clayworks Spring Sale. There were beautiful pieces of art everywhere you looked. It really was a surreal experience being surrounded by all that work from all those talented people all in one place.

There was music, food, and folks shopping.

Some old friends stopped in to see us and spend some time. I got to demo with Ju-Ian. I was throwing and she was altering and hand building. It was a lot of fun and I hope we can do it again soon.

LuAnn came by to see Elaine
and it was nice to see her again after such long time.

No pictures, please.
(Look at that thenar eminence
not to mention the hypothenar.
She could throw some great plates.)

Oh yeah, I was there too.

Saturday 2009-03-28

Saturday was Muddy Fun day! We had two classes full of great students and the time just flew by us.

Karla teaches the Saturday classes for young people. They always seem like they're having so much fun it makes me want to wander over there for a while.

Scott, Elaine, and Max. Max was showing them pictures of pottery that he took at a New York museum (oops, I forgot which one!). The pieces looked completely contemporary and they were made anywhere from 800 to 1270. It was amazing. You can check some of them out here on Max's blog.

Saturday 2009-03-21

My sale at the church went well, but could have used some more traffic. The folks at the church were very nice and it was good sale so I will try again. Here is what my table looked like.

I definitely need some multi-tiered displays.

I was offered this second table since nobody was using it.
(Needs covering...)

After the sale I went by Clayworks to get my pots from the last cone 10 firing. (Pictures of them coming later.) Elaine and Becky were there feeling silly and they started playing "my hair as a mustache". We all got a good giggle about it and of course I had to snap a couple of shots.

What happens in the kitchen doesn't always stay in the kitchen,
but it probably should. :^)

Some of Greg's pieces. I love the freedom in his forms and glazing.
