2017-12-17 - Sunday - Bugs and pots

Sunday was filled with insects and new pots.

I found an insect above the door frame in the kitchen. After researching it, it appears to be a leafhopper assassin bug nymph. Sounds like it could be painful to touch it, glad I didn't.

 

I went to Clayworks to pick up my pots from the gas firing and while talking to Kira Campbell about her pots I noticed a brown marmorated stink bug on the handle of her tray.

I picked up my pots and was very pleased with the results of the firing. I didn't like the way the re-fired oribe (green) pots came out, but I wasn't impressed with them before they went back in either. The rest of my pots came out great.

2017-11-19 - Sunday - Old pots and new pots

While cleaning out the garage I found some old mugs I made with a copper-heavy glaze which I didn't realize wasn't good to drink from. They will make nice shards for a future mosaic.

In the afternoon we unloaded the gas kiln. It was kind of  mixed pack, tight areas and loose areas, so we had some variations in the results.

2015-09-23 - Wednesday - Kiln opening

We unloaded the gas kiln on Wednesday night. Kim says it was the best firing she's ever done and I can't argue with her. To say I'm happy with my pots would be an understatement. I'm in love all over again.

I'll get some nicer photos taken as soon as I get a chance, but even in these quick snaps these pots make me smile.

People who don't fire kilns only get one Christmas a year.

2015-08-10 - Monday - Unloading the kiln

On Monday Kim, Becky, and I unloaded the kiln. As always there were some surprises, but overall I was happy with my haul. It's like Christmas in August.

The only problem I had was some of the new woo yellow I mixed "shivering" off of my garlic pots. I am going to get some help "loosening up" that glaze.

Some of the glaze popped off the bottom curve.
