2014-08-10 - Sunday - Moonlight boardwalk

Sunday night we took another trip to the boardwalk which was about two blocks away.  There was a beautiful full moon and I grabbed a photo of it before we left the house.  I took several more photos once we got there, most of them having something to do with the moonlight.

80x zoom.

Surreal.

Random people down by the water.

This is a lone pine tree tuft under a streetlight
that was casting a shadow on the sidewalk.
I passed it every night and wanted to capture it.

2014-07-08 - Tuesday - Blood, sweat, and ferns

Tuesday I repaired the tiller, and luckily it was a quick fix.  I broke up the chunks from yesterday, added 400 lbs of topsoil and 4 bags of mushroom compost, and tilled it all in.

I planted the nandinas after chopping out several maple tree roots.  I had to work around the larger roots which were as thick as my arm.  I then planted the ferns from the plant rescue, and some lenten roses from friends.  Once that was done I top-dressed it with some partially composted hardwood mulch that has been in the yard for a couple of years.  Rich stuff.

The temperature was 78 F when I started and it was 93 F when I finished.  If we sweat out our toxins I believe I am currently toxin-free.

I'm sad to report that the dogwood did not make it.  I think I am just not supposed to have a dogwood tree.

While cooling down before heading inside, I snapped a photo of the callow lily by the raised garden beds and the boardwalk I put between the beds.  On Saturday I ripped an old section of dog eared fence to make the walk.

I really need to plant more of these.

The boardwalk to nowhere.

June 27 - Images of the shore

Some images from a day at the shore.

It started out with a long walk on the beach with my brother.  I love the different light, shadows, and textures available at the shore in the mornings.

For lunch I had the best fish taco ever at Jay's Crab Shack.  Dave said the fish and chips was really good too.  We'll be going back there.

Some relaxing at the house, supper and then off to the boardwalk.

A day at the shore.

Hermit crabs everywhere.

June 25 - Weather

Monday the weather threatened several times late in the day and into the evening.  It held off while we went to the boardwalk, but came back with a vengeance at about midnight.  Nothing like a storm at the shore.

Clouds are building dramatically.

The boardwalk was surprisingly empty,
perhaps because of the threatening weather.

Thursday - Boardwalk

It wouldn't be a trip to the NJ shore without time on the boardwalk.  Thursday night we went there to eat things we shouldn't and check out all the newest places.  The fog rolled back in as the sun set so it gave everything an ethereal quality.  The atmosphere didn't change the general goofiness of vacation, though as these pictures attest.

Bringing the Johnson's caramel corn container for a refill.

Or not.

Say cheese!

Or not.

(Despite what Bruce said, it's not hard to be a saint in the city.)

2010-08-11 Wednesday - Ocean City, NJ

Another day of walking the beach and another night on the boardwalk.  The trip to the boardwalk held some added adventure since Justin and Stephanie got their ears pierced.  A big step for both of them.  Justin got a "regular" piercing in his left earlobe, and Stephanie got a ball stud in the upper cartilage of her left ear.  We started out at Kohr Bros. for some frozen custard and ended up at Beach Jewelry for the piercings.

This is an odd treat that we tried and turned out to be pretty good.

Justin mugging for the camera and Ryan eating his cone.

Stephanie and Justin laughing about something.

John takes any chance to see his Phillies play.

Walking the boards.

The boardwalk.

Marking the spot.

Pow!

Presto!

Ready...
