Saturday - terra4m Sale and dinner at the Kelley's

Saturday was the first terra4m sale of 2011.  It was a nice spring-like day with temperatures in the high sixties.  We were pleased to have several friends stop by and visit with us.  We didn't break any records, but it was so nice to sit in the sun and spend some time with good friends.  Unfortunately our good friend Elaine, the other member of terra4m was unable to attend the sale and we missed her.

Tom and Lisa invited us over later to cook some steaks and we were quick to accept.  Their sons, Daniel and Christopher were having some fun with a stuffed monkey that was part of a Valentine's Day gift.  We all had several fits of giggles being silly with the monkey.

All in all, a good day.  I hope yours was too.

2010-09-29 Wednesday - Son of Glaze-a-thon II

Wednesday was a HUGE glazing session.  As you can see from the pictures below, I had quite a bit of work waiting for me to glaze.  I set up my impromptu spray booth and went to work.  I dipped some, and poured some, and sprayed some, and over sprayed with lots of oxides.  I didn't get all of the pieces glazed since some of them are destined for the raku kiln, but I got all the cone 10 pieces covered.

Glazing always takes longer than the time allotted and this was no exception.  I started at around 7:00 pm and left the studio at 1:30 am.  Art ambles at it's own pace.

2010-09-24 Friday - Festival in the Park

Friday saw us Clayworks folks at Festival in the Park in the Emerging Artists tent.  Greg had his own space and Clayworks had a booth for us volunteers to demo and talk to people about the studio.  We had a great time and some of us are really energized by demoing and answering questions.  We've discussed it and some of us believe it is the truest contrast of extroverts to introverts.  Introverts get worn out doing this and extroverts get recharged.  I'll let you guess which camp I inhabit.  :8^)

Greg did some extraordinary pieces for the event with lots of great detail and he enjoyed fielding lots of questions about his work, his process, and his inspiration.  I was surprised at the depth and insight of some of the questions.  It's nice to interact with people that are not strangers to contemplative thought.

Lisa was the other volunteer throwing pots and we had a grand old time cutting up and laughing.  I always have fun with Lisa and David (her other half).  They are intelligent, funny, talented people.  They are another couple in a long line of friends I have found through Clayworks.  We really DO have great people.

I enjoyed taking pictures of Lisa with the spotlights right behind her.  I think it really captured the atmosphere of the tent at night.  Even after all these years (my 30th this year!), Festival in the Park is still a magical place for me where the world just stops for a few hours.  The magic is especially noticeable at night with the lights, the trees, the lake, and the smell of elephant ears and brat dogs.  It was a great thrill to be a part of the granddaddy of Charlotte festivals.  Adrienne, thanks for giving us the opportunity.

2010-06-19 Saturday - Inaugural Terra4m Sale

We had our Terra4m inaugural sale on Saturday and it was quite a success.  Becky's yard was a wonderful place to set up our displays and we had quite a bit of traffic.  I think Kim's bird baths were the star of the sale, but nobody did badly.  Participating were Terra4m artists Kim Marcadis, Elaine Spallone, Becky Story, and me.  Guest artists were Lisa (Lulu) Connell with clay, Cyn Kent with watercolors, Max McLeod with clay and photos, Nicholas Nelson with clay, and Cindy Tuccitto with clay.  We had lots of Clayworks visitors and we appreciate the great support.  Ju-Ian stopped by and even brought us ice cream!

It was extremely warm as June has hit us like August, but everyone was in good spirits.  The traffic really dropped off in the late afternoon due to the heat.  Based on that theory we are going to start our next summer sale earlier in the day.

We set out refreshments and we set up a table near the entrance that allowed people to sign up on our mailing list which entered them into a drawing for a piece of pottery from each of us Terra4mers.

It was a good start for Terra4m and we are looking forward to the future.
