2017-07-30 - Sunday - Face mugs

Sunday I made some mug "blanks" for putting faces on later. I hope to enter some face mugs in the Cups in Common show at Clayworks, but only if I can get them fired before the deadline.

2017-07-26 - Wednesday - Mugs

Wednesday I started some new mugs. I need to make more and some tea bowls too.

I also need to get those tumblers done.

2017-05-25 - Thursday - New pots

Thursday I got some of my pots back from the kiln. Kimberly fires it beautifully with lots of reduction in our shino-centric firing schedule.

2017-02-12 - Sunday - Fong Choo workshop, day 2

Sunday was the second day of the Fong Choo workshop. It was a good day with lots of information, demonstrations, and discussions.

2016-10-09 - Sunday - Handling mugs

Sunday I put one-finger handles on the mugs and made a couple of larger forms. One was part of my "sphere" series and the other one will be a blank for a new face pot.

2016-10-08 - Saturday - Ribs and cups and urns, oh my

Saturday I noticed that I was wearing out one of my favorite ribs. This rib used to be red all the way to the edge and now it's clear. It's well-loved and well-used.

This rib is becoming real.

I worked on some new mug ideas and the pet urns. I am making two for the guinea pig in case another one doesn't make it. Wish me luck.

2016-06-19 - Sunday - New pots and a rabbit

Sunday I went to Clayworks. I put handles on some mugs and pushed some faces into some vessels. Everything is a process.

On my way home I stopped at the grocery store. After shopping I saw this rabbit while waiting for a red light. It was on alert, but fairly comfortable to be out this close to traffic while grazing. Nature works around us and fits in where it can.

2016-06-05 - Sunday - Mugs, Lilies, and Salmon

Sunday I finally put handles on my mugs. I've never made handles like this, but I've also never made mugs in this shape before. I think they go well together. Perhaps a bit clunky, but in a good way --I hope.

I planted this day lily in 2000 and the pot used to rest on our deck in a sunny spot. Since then we've had the deck removed and the screened porch built. The pot got moved out into the yard under a maple tree and didn't bloom last year. I was afraid it might not bloom again this year, but it's had eight flowers this season so it's found it's happy place.

In the evening I cooked a salmon filet in aluminum foil. It was pretty good and I'm sure we'll do it again in the future. You can find the recipe here.

2016-05-29 - Sunday - Mugs

Sunday I went to Clayworks and threw some mug bodies. I worked on making some gestures with the rib and like the way they came out so far. As always, we'll see.

September 12 - Thursday - Sears and pots

I ordered a replacement mulching door from Sears for the lawnmower and they did a HORRIBLE job of packing it.  It (barely) arrived via the US Mail in a box that was so mangled it's a wonder it got here at all.  The part is a flat, slightly curved door and it was thrown into a too-large box with a couple of the air-filled pillow-type spacers.  There was no way it filled the volume of the box and it caused it to fail.  Added to that (or because of that), the top of the box was torn across two sides of the carton and the sharpest end of the part itself was poking through the cardboard on one side.

If it wasn't for the durability of the plastic part it never would have made it here.  Great job Sears.

Thursday night I made some more mug bodies and some altered forms.

August 21 - Wednesday - Sunflowers and mugs

Wednesday when I went to Clayworks I was struck by the sight of the HUGE sunflowers by the gate.  Sylvia planted them and they look amazing.

I put handles on four of the mugs that survived out of seven I made earlier.

Sunday - Making

Sunday I got some time at Clayworks to trim a couple of pieces and throw some more.  I am experimenting with different types of alterations and trying to get back into mug forms at the same time.  It keeps things interesting.
