2010-05-16 Sunday - ClayMatters Meeting at Pottery Central
Sunday we had our ClayMatters meeting at Pottery Central. It was a good meeting and Andrew did several demos. We started outside and due to a downpour we were forced to reconvene inside the building.

2010-03-21 Sunday - Busy day
I planned on going to church on Sunday, but it got too late. So the first thing in my busy day was to clear out the garden beds and plant some peas and lettuce. I think it might be too late for both of them, but since I already own the seeds I thought I'd give it a try. I then proceeded to chop out some ligustrum and holly out front. Fun stuff, and I've been sore from it today.
Next it was off to Clayworks for the big cleanup day from 1-3pm. It was a beehive of activity and everyone was working hard. I had to leave a little bit early, but the place was looking good as I was leaving.
From there, off to the supermarket to get some chicken wings for my next stop: The ClayMatters meeting which always includes a pot luck. It was a good meeting and we were treated to demos of several artists' surface design techniques.

2009-11-15 Sunday - Clay Olympics
Sunday was the clay olympics at the Clay Matters meeting. The clay olympics consists of various individual and team timed events including throwing the tallest cylinder, throwing the most pots, throwing blindfolded, handbuilding the tallest pot, etc. Everyone had a great time with lots of laughs and talented throwing.

2009-10-10 Saturday - Barn Sale
On Saturday Elaine, Becky and I took our show on the road again to the Carolina Clay Matters Guild Barn Sale. We had a great time, had a nice picnic snack, built a fort in case it rained, and even sold some pottery. I am truly blessed to have the best boothmates ever. We all work together to get things done and have so much fun it should be illegal.
I am always amazed at the talent that surrounds us and the barn sale is a showcase for that talent. When I visit a sale like this I can have one of two reactions: I can get depressed by seeing everyone else's work or be inspired and invigorated by it. I choose the second option and am planning on going back to the studio to create some amazing stuff of my own.
It's nice to catch up with so many friends and make some new ones. With fifty-four artists it's hard to get around to talk to all of them especially when you're supposed to be selling your own work too. I still try. There were quite a few people from Clayworks on both sides of the booths and we were well represented.
The turnout for the show was good but I think people are still uneasy spending money on non-essentials. My sales were fair, but given the economic uncertainty they were probably more like "good".

2009-10-05 Monday - Barn Sale on Saturday!
The Carolina Clay Matters Guild Barn Sale is coming up this weekend. There will be over fifty potters there, including yours truly. I will be sharing a booth once again with Becky and Elaine. Yup, I've talked them into letting me park in their booth once again. I hope they don't realize that I'm the freeloader and toss me out.
But seriously, it's great to be in a booth in such nice and talented company. Becky will be bringing her famous flock and Elaine will be displaying her wonderful work. I am honored to be displaying with them.
There will be lots of talented artists there on Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. If you are in the area, you owe it to yourself to visit this sale. It's amazing. 'Nuff said.

2009-05-09 Saturday Barn Sale
Saturday was the barn sale and the weather co-operated nicely since there was a chance of thunderstorms and they didn't materialize. There was a wonderful display of everyone's work and it was beautiful. We are truly blessed with a lot of talented people in the Clay Matters Guild. I only got a chance to dash through the rest of the sale, so I don't have as many pictures as I normally would have taken.
I had the good fortune to be sharing a booth with Becky and Elaine. I couldn't have asked for better friends with which to share a space. We worked together and got along swimmingly --quite a feat in the withering heat. Thanks, you two!
I signed up for Andy Smith's workshop on June 6th and can't wait --it should be great since Andy is very creative and entertaining. I have enjoyed talking with him before at the ACC and Saturday I was amazed all over again.
I talked to Bob Hasselle again about running a barrel fire workshop. He gets some great results on his pit-fired pieces and a lot of us at Clayworks would love to learn some of his techniques. He has added some over-sized tea pots to his collection that I wish I had taken some pictures of since they were beautiful.
Unfortunately there is never enough time to see everyone you'd like to at the sale. There are several people I didn't get a chance to see. Hopefully I'll be seeing them at the meetings.

2009-05-06 Wednesday Barn Sale this weekend!
The Clay Matters Barn Sale is this Saturday. Come out and see all the wonderful work people have been making, pick up a last minute Mother's Day gift, or just say hello. If you've never been you owe it to yourself to check it out. You won't be disappointed.
