2015-05-27 - Wednesday - New bowls

Wednesday I picked up some of my finished bowls.

I had a large, orange commissioned bowl for my high school friend Stan Godlewski. Stan is a very talented photographer and if you have a moment, check out his site.

There were some more of my bowls with the graphics inside. They take a lot of work, but I'm really enjoying these and I hope my customers enjoy them as much as I do.

Last, my large slump-molded bowl with the sutures. I was hoping for a bit more drama in the glazing, but I'm starting to enjoy the quietness of it. What you can't see in the photo is the three stubby feet underneath it.

February 21 - Empty bowls and broken vessels

Tuesday I made more empty bowls, glazed some, and sutured my broken vessels.

Friday - Back to clay

These pictures are from July 29.  I finally got some photos of what I'm currently doing at Clayworks.

I'm working on a whole series of "rough" pots.  These orangestone pieces have lots of texture, sutures, and some have clay medallions stapled to them.  I will use very little glaze on them and keep the surface treatments simple.  While I haven't gotten to where I want to be with them yet, it's a good start.

Wednesday - Broken Vessels

Wednesday I cut and sutured some more of the pots I hope to include in my Japan disaster series.  I am still seeing new ideas in my mind's eye so it's going places I never thought of when I started.  We'll all see where it takes me.  I spend a lot of time thinking about the whole disaster and all the people and animals affected by it.

Wednesday - More pots

Wednesday was the first night of the short session before we move to our new building.  Apparently a lot of people are skipping the short session since we only have four people in the class.

I made two more pots that I am planning on slicing and suturing.  If these hold up they will be part of my Japan series.  More pictures to follow.

2010-05-27 Clayworks

I made this pot in two pieces (body, and then neck) and after I attached the neck I realized it was slightly off center to the body.  I cut it down the middle with my wire to check the wall thickness and was planning to recycle the clay.  When Max saw me cut it he told me I should put it back together on an offset.  I liked the idea so much I cut it again into quarters and offset that cut as well.  The bottom didn't want to stay together as well as I would have liked, so I put some sutures in the seams.  It has been suggested to me by several people that I should also wrap some wire around the neck.  The idea is growing on me...

I really love working in clay, but I might have mentioned that previously.

I have finally taken some pictures of some finished pots. These pots were fired in the last two ^10 gas firings. I will try to post some of the others as time permits.
