2017-08-17 - Thursday - Buildings and fawns

Thursday I was working in Rhodhiss and stopped off in Lincolnton for something to eat. While I was there I thought I would see what was happening at a now-closed company that I worked with for many years.

I was shocked to find the buildings gone when I arrived. There was once a dye house and a large warehouse on the spot where there is now just a slab of concrete. I sat for a moment and thought about all the lives that passed through those buildings and it gave me pause.

Later I noticed some fawns in the back yard. As much as I hate the damage the deer do to our yard, I loved watching the fawns. They are just so beautiful.

From the kitchen window.

Settling down.

From the dining room window I noticed that there were two of them.

Here's a short video of them waiting for sunset. I dare you not to "Awww...".

2017-08-16 - Wednesday - Bisque kiln

Wednesday I loaded a bisque kiln. I had quite a bit of work going all the way back to my first set of fish for the totem.

I also bisque fired the three-face pot. I've decided the bottom guy looks a bit stoned and it was even more pronounced when he was reclining in the kiln. Well he is made out of stoneware...

2017-08-12 - Saturday - New pot

I made a very round pot on Saturday.

This summer has been slow in the studio for me. I've been away from the studio for a lot of it and my inspiration has been intermittent. I'm looking forward to fall.

2017-08-07 - Monday - South Carolina

Stephanie got her new South Carolina license plate and asked me to put it on her car. While doing so I noticed the strange slogan at the top of it.

What?

Stephanie said her her choice was "In God We Trust" or "the basic" plate.

I don't get it.

2017-08-06 - Sunday - Handsquatch pot

I collected some pots from the latest firing and one of them was a "handsquatch" pot. It features my hand print that gets stretched out during the process so it looks huge. It's so stretched that a lot of people don't even recognize it as a hand print until I point it out to them.

2017-08-05 - Saturday - Muddy Fun and more mugs

Saturday was Muddy Fun day at Clayworks and we had a good group of participants.

Later, I finished another nose mug to go with the other mouth.

2017-08-04 - Friday - Goodyear Arts closing opening

Friday I took the light rail downtown to attend the opening marking the closing of the current Goodyear Arts building. The artists will be moving to Camp North End soon since they are losing access to the current building.

My friend Grace Stott is one of the artists and since I have missed several openings I thought I at least needed to attend the last show. Grace did her largest project to date and her first mural so I had to go see it.

While I was way out of my comfort zone, I'm glad I went.

There were many installations inside and some great murals on the exterior. It was crowded and hot and interesting.

Grace's mural.

Inside, it was crowded and hot.

I like it.
