2009-06-20 It's A Mystery

This is my hand.

This is a pigeon eating chocolate chip cookie bits from my hand.

Can you tell me where this is?

If you can, you will receive my undying admiration and possibly a hearty handshake.

Good luck!

2009-06-06 Saturday Craig Ferguson

This was The Late Late Show opening on Wednesday night. It's one of my favorite songs from They Might Be Giants' 1990 CD, "Flood", and Craig did it a great justice. I hope it makes you giggle like it did me.

2009-06-04 Thursday Painting Pots

Thursday night I was back at Clayworks painting earthenware pots. I am trying different scenes, but most of it is rather naive, primitive, or juvenile looking. Every once in a while I am really pleased with one or two, but I have quite a ways to go to bring up the average. Not having done any painting for thirty years has taken it's toll on my admittedly minor skills. I'll keep practicing. Onward and upward.

Painting, painting, painting.

Last of the three pitchers-turned-vases.

2009-06-04 Thursday Graduation Day

On Thursday Meredith graduated from eighth grade. Now we have two high school students --who'd a thunk it? Seems like we just brought them both home from the hospital last week and now they're in high school. It surely goes by fast.

It was a big day and we all attended the graduation ceremony before going to lunch at Nothing But Noodles (Meredith's choice). Later we topped it off with a stop at the Marble Slab Creamery for some dessert.

At lunch.

2009-06-04 Thursday Gardening

Stephanie helped me finish the tomato planting by assisting me in putting down newspaper and pine bark mulch. They are tucked in with lots of compost and soaker hoses under the newspaper/mulch and should be nice and comfy for the summer. I can't wait for that first beefsteak tomato sandwich. Mmmm...

Tomatoes mulched and caged
(so they can't get away).
Note the runaway oregano in the background.

To the left are the calla lilies and
way in the back right is the monstrous elderberry.

This is an amazing video. Watch it all the way through. This guy is incredible.

Happy Friday!

2009-06-03 Wednesday Clayworks

Tonight I tried to clean off my shelf of all the work in process. Tomorrow I will start taking other things home since we have to vacate our shelves for an update. I assembled another vase and added small "ear" handles to it. It is resting comfortably in the recovery area of my shelf. In the meantime, I found my largest pot (26"), my two thin-walled pots, the two vases I made on Sunday, my earthenware salt pigs, some mugs, a small flower vase, and two plates. Whew!

I also found four pots in the back that were bisqued in 1999 and 2000. I guess it's time to glaze them --maybe.

I almost filled up a whole greenware shelf.

2009-05-31 Sunday Clayworks

Sunday I stopped by Clayworks and put some of (what were once) my pitchers together. The tops got too dry to pull a spout on so they are now vases. You can see the last one in the back that hasn't been assembled yet. Next came the decisions on handles --sometimes that can be painful. After assembling them I covered them and put them back on the shelf to even out the moisture.

What once were pitchers are now vases.
